Week Ahead Industry Previews: Third Week of July 2023

Here’s a rundown of the most noteworthy web3 industry events and project developments to look out for in the coming week

The 6th Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC) will take place from July 17th to 20th in Paris, France. This conference is the largest annual Ethereum event in Europe, focusing on technology and community. It is expected to gather over 5000 attendees, with more than 100 satellite events happening throughout the week.

Binance previously announced its exit from the Dutch market, and starting from July 17th, existing residents of the Netherlands will only be able to withdraw their assets from Binance. Buying, trading, or depositing will no longer be available. Binance stated that it has been making comprehensive registration applications to Dutch regulatory authorities but was unable to complete the VASP registration in the Netherlands. Once the VASP registration is completed, Binance plans to resume offering products and services to its Dutch users.

cLabs, the development team behind Celo, will hold a governance call on July 21st at 23:00 Beijing time. The call will discuss the use of the OP Stack to migrate Celo to the Ethereum Layer 2 architecture. Following the governance call, a temperature check proposal will be released (earliest on July 22nd) and further research and refinement of the proposal will be conducted. If the community and validators reach consensus, the final implementation is planned to be carried out through a hard fork. Additionally, as the next generation of zk-SNARK proof systems matures, Celo is expected to be upgraded to a highly scalable zk-EVM network through additional work. Key features of this technical upgrade include a decentralized sequencer driven by existing Celo validators using a Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus mechanism, an off-chain data availability layer supported by EigenLayer and EigenDA operated by Ethereum node operators, and protected through re-collateralization of ETH to keep fees low. The design will retain Celo’s confirmation time of only 1 block.

    • Blockchain intelligence company Arkham will distribute ARKM airdrop rewards on July 18th.
    • On-chain intelligence trading platform Arkham Intel Exchange will go live on July 18th.
    • On-chain generative art platform Prohibition will go live on Arbitrum on July 18th.

  • Arkham (ARKM) tokens will unlock 150 million tokens, accounting for 15% of the total supply, on July 18th at 08:00:00.
    • PRIME tokens for the NFT sci-fi card game Parallel will begin linear unlocking for investors starting from July 18th.
    • X2Y2 (X2Y2) tokens will unlock 37.5 million tokens (approximately $970,000), accounting for 3.75% of the total supply, on July 18th at 23:47.
