Week Ahead Industry Previews: Third Week of March 2023

Here’s a rundown of the most noteworthy industry events and project developments to look out for in the coming week

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME Group) announced that it will expand its event contract suite on March 13th, including Bitcoin futures. Tim McCourt, Global Head of CME Group Stock and Forex Products, stated that “the new event contracts for Bitcoin futures provide investors with a highly transparent and less complex way to enter the cryptocurrency market. These contracts track the daily price movements of our highly liquid benchmark Bitcoin futures, providing investors with an innovative and low-cost way to trade their views on whether Bitcoin prices will rise or fall.”

The Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM) will be launched on the mainnet on March 14th, allowing developers to deploy their own smart contracts and perform on-chain calculations on the status data of the Filecoin network. FVM is built on top of the WASM core and references the SDK built into Rust. FVM can be used to create a new type of Web3 dApp, many of which will be able to increase network functionality by 10 times or more. New Filecoin use cases include tokenized data sets and data DAOs, trustless reputation systems, replication workers, and smarter storage markets. The OKX Web3 Wallet will be launched on March 14th, with access to the Ethereum Virtual Machine (FEVM).

The Ethereum Shapella network upgrade will be activated on the Goerli network at block height 162,304 on March 15th. This is expected to be the last testnet upgrade before the Shapella upgrade is arranged for the Ethereum mainnet. After this Goerli testnet upgrade, the mainnet upgrade will take place within the next 3 to 4 weeks

March 13th

Important Events:

  • CME Group will include Bitcoin futures in its event contract suite on March 13th.
  • Shapella community conference call for Ethereum is scheduled for March 13th.

Project Progress:

  • CyberConnect has canceled ccProfile invitation mode until March 13th and waived the minting fees and gas fees for ccProfile on the BNB Chain that are not less than 12 characters.

Upcoming Events:

  • The Global Intellectual Property EU will hold a forum in Berlin from March 13th to 14th.
  • The Vietnam ZK Spring Residency research activity, hosted by EF PSE and 0xPARC, is scheduled to be held from March 13th to April 7th.
  • The Connected 2023 hackathon, co-sponsored by CyberConnect and BNB Chain, will be held from February 7th to March 13th.

Token Unlocking:

Sweatcoin’s SWEAT tokens will unlock 129,348,776 pieces (about 1.09 million US dollars) on March 13th at 08:00:00.

March 14th

Project Progress:

  • The MakerDAO community voted on “emergency parameter changes” and will execute them on March 14th.
  • Web3 privacy platform Iron Fish will launch its mainnet on March 14th and distribute 940,000 tokens to testnet users.
  • The Filecoin virtual machine FEVM will be launched on the mainnet on March 14th.
  • Coinbase will suspend BUSD trading starting March 14th.
  • OKX Web3 Wallet will debut its integration with FEVM on March 14th.
  • Derivative trading protocol ZKX, based on StarkNet, will go live on the testnet on March 14th and will open source smart contracts.

Upcoming Events:

  • Web3 game publisher Xterio will hold the LOT competition from March 1st to 14th.
  • Encode x Polkadot 2023 Spring Education Series will begin on March 14th.
  • Solana Grizzlython hackathon will continue until March 14th.
  • DcoreumCN will hold a Twitter Space event on March 14th at 20:00 with the theme “Why Blockchain Matters to Me?”

Token Unlocking:

  • dYdX’s DYDX token will unlock 6,520,128 pieces (about 12.39 million US dollars) on March 14th at 23:00:00.

March 15th

Important Events:

  • Bank of Israel has released stablecoin regulatory guidelines and the proposed rules will be open for public comment before March 15th.
  • Kraken will no longer support non-enterprise customers using Signature for USD deposits and withdrawals. Deposits will be stopped on March 15th.

Project Updates:

  • Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) will delay the launch of “Summoning” by one week until March 15th.
  • Cross-chain liquidity protocol Stargate will re-release STG tokens on March 15th and air-drop them to all STG holders in a 1:1 ratio.
  • OpenSea Seaport will upgrade to version 1.4 and officially abandon Seaport v1.1 on March 15th.
  • The all-chain wallet project, Everywhere Finance, will launch its beta version on March 15th.
  • The Ethereum Goerli test network is expected to activate the Shapella upgrade on March 15th.

NFT Minting:

  • PROOF, the parent company of Moonbirds, will partner with Pace Verso to release artist Mika Tajima’s first personal NFT project, “Archive of Feelings” on March 15th.

Token Unlock:

  • BitDAO’s token, BIT, will be unlocked on March 15th at 08:00:00, releasing 187,500,000.92 tokens (approximately $88.76 million).
  • Euler’s token, EUL, will be unlocked on March 15th at 08:53:56, releasing 107,723 tokens (approximately $640,000), accounting for 0.396% of the total supply.
  • Convergence’s token, CONV, will be unlocked on March 15th at 20:00:00, releasing 161,666,666.68 tokens (approximately $100,000), accounting for 1.617% of the total supply.

Upcoming Events:

  • On March 15th at 21:00, TYPE V DAO will hold a Twitter Space event on the topic of “VC Equity Protection: Pre-Investment Predictions & Post-Investment Management.”

March 16th

Project Updates:

  • Crypto.com will undergo system maintenance on March 16th.
  • Bakkt’s individual-facing application will cease service on March 16th.
  • US Senate has requested more operational information from Binance and Binance.US and requires Binance to respond by March 16th.

NFT Minting:

DIY hardware manufacturer, DVNLab, will launch its first NFT series and air-drop it for free on March 16th.

  • On March 16th, Baidu plans to hold a press conference with the theme of “Wenxin Yiyian”.
  • On March 16th at 21:00, TYPE V DAO will hold a Twitter Space event on the topic of “NFT Night: How do Web2 Brands Cultivate Web3 Ecology?”
  • On March 16th at 22:00, 852dev.xyz will hold a Twitter Space event on the topic of “Web3, Any Dev of Me #1”.

Token Unlock:

  • Galxe’s token, GAL, will be unlocked on March 16th at 20:00:00, releasing 192,307.7 tokens (approximately $270,000), accounting for 0.096% of the total supply.

March 17th

Proposal Voting:

  • The proposal to deploy Uniswap V3 on Avalanche will end its voting period on March 17th.

Token Unlocking:

  • ApeCoin’s token, APE, will unlock 40,601,326 tokens (approximately $157 million) on March 17th at 08:00:00, accounting for 4.06% of the total supply.
  • Stargate Finance’s token, STG, will begin daily linear unlocking of 549,450.55 tokens (approximately $340,000) on March 17th at 08:00:00.

NFT Minting:

  • The deadline for the Realm Hunter Genesis Pass whitelist is March 17th.

Event Preview:

  • Microsoft will hold a high-level press conference, and the market generally expects that Microsoft will officially announce the incorporation of ChatGPT technology into Office.
  • Sharding Capital will host the Middle East Web3 Demo Day, “Shard Dubai,” on March 17th in Dubai.
  • GameFi social interaction platform, BEBO LAB NFT Mint, is expected to open public casting on March 17th.

March 18th

Project Update:

  • Optimism will release the Bedrock mainnet upgrade proposal v2 version, and the Regolith hard fork will take place on March 18th.
  • OKXChain will adjust its block reward from producing 0.5 OKT per block to producing 0.125 OKT per block on March 18th.

Event Preview:

  • PlatON, Alibaba Cloud, and HashKey will jointly hold the Web3 Global Entrepreneurship Competition “HAPathon 2023” in Singapore from March 18th to 19th.

March 19th

Event Preview:
